HISTORICAL NOTESThese wagons are based on the Railway Clearing House regulations of 1907. Charles Roberts as a major wagon builder must have had a considerable influence in the drawing up of these regulations. This is evidenced by the fact that the wagon’s being built by Roberts in the 1900’s, on which this kit is based, were virtually indistinguishable from the 1907 design. This wagon was built with side and end door.In 1908 the South Wales Anthracite Colliery Company of Swansea placed an order for 50, 10 Ton wagons. They were for the Yniscedwyn and Ystradgynlais collieries. The Yniscedwyn was on the Midland Railway at Gurnos, while the Ystradgynlais was on the Neath and Brecon Railway. Much of their output would have to the midlands and Central Wales via Brecon, Hereford or Worcester. This company was not listed by the RCH in 1926 so it is probable that it became part of United Anthracite Collieries Ltd.The livery was black overall with plain white lettering. No’s 750 – 779 read Empty to Yniscedwyn, while No’s 780 – 799 read Empty to Ystradgynlais. Our 7mm ('O' Gauge) wagon kit is based on the 20 wagons which read empty to Ystradgynlais. |
