HISTORICAL NOTES

In 1887 the Railway Clearing House (RCH) issued its first set of specifications, which although not mandatory, did set down certain dimensional and other requirements in the construction of private owner wagons.

It is a wagon built to these specifications that our 7mm ('O' Gauge) model of the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company 6 plank open wagon, side and end door, represents.

Thomas Pascoe was a part owner in  Grenfell & Sons which closed at about the time that orders were placed for a total of 60 wagons.

Two batches of wagons were produced in 1897 for Thomas T Pascoe of Swansea. The first a batch of 10 were numbered 319 – 328.  The second larger group of 50 wagons were numbered 333 – 382.

These 10 Ton wagons were painted black with white letters.

When built these wagons would have been fitted with brakes on one side only.
