HISTORICAL NOTESIn 1887 the Railway Clearing House (RCH) issued its first set of specifications, which although not mandatory, did set down certain dimensional and other requirements in the construction of private owner wagons. It is a wagon built to these specifications that our 'O' gauge model of the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company 6 plank open wagon, side door, represents.George Clifford was a stone mason and ordered two wagon from the Gloucester wagon co. our 10 Ton 7mm wagon is based on a wagon for Bourton on the water. We know little about this enterprising stone mason and would welcome any information on either the man or the wagon. PAINTING
DETAILS
The majority of private owner liveries were bases on one of four body colours; black, red oxide, grey or dark brown. The body colour was taken down on to the solebar, but all running gear and ironwork on the body being painted black. There were obvious exceptions to the above and some quite colourful wagons did exist. |
