Following the success of the Slate Quarry Hunslet “ROUGH PUP”, Slater’s next 16mm scale loco kit will be for the well-known locomotive “PRINCE” from the Festiniog Railway.

PRINCE has many claims to fame. It was one of a batch of three (later increased to four) built in 1863, making it one of the earliest narrow gauge steam locomotives. Along with another of the batch (PRINCESS), and the fourth loco (PALMERSTON), as well as one out of two slightly larger versions (WELSH PONY), it still survives to this day. Much rebuilt, it is in every day service with what is now called the Ffestiniog Railway. This makes it one of the oldest steam locomotives in use in the World. When the railway was preserved in 1955, PRINCE was the first steam loco to be restored to use.

The kit is expected to be released in September 2006, in time for the Autumn exhibition season, at a price of about £325.

1:32 Scale Narrow Gauge

Slater's have acquired the range of 1:32 Scale Narrow Gauge Models, previously produced by 'Light Railway Materials' ( and originally by Bridge Models).

This Scale is usually expressed as 1:32, but in more common model railway terminology, would be known as 3/8in/ft or 9.5mm/ft. Although "new" to narrow gauge modelers ( so far as models produced commercially ), it fits nicely between the established 'narrow gauge scales' of 7mm/ft and 16mm/ft, is the correct scale for Gauge 1 Standard Gauge, and most importantly, is widely used in other modeling disciplines ( notably military, farm and road vehicles), so a huge range of 'accessories' is available.
